I found this site a month ago, and I must say it has been a blessing to me. If you knew me, you’d know the word of blessing rarely left my lips, but I have begun to change, praise God, haha, there I go again. Thank you for this. I do wish however, the sound quality was a little better though. One more thing, can you tell me if the story of Job actually happened, or was it created to teach us how to deal with suffering?

Praise God Sheldon! I’m happy to see the Lord bless you. The sound quality is due to mp3 encoding for size, and due to sample rate so that it will play in the little flash mp3 players we use.

Most Adventists believe that the book of Job was written by Moses. Moses spent 40 years in Midian, which would give him ample background for the strong Arabic flavor that is evident throughout the book. Moses’ Egyptian background also explains the allusions to Egyptian life and practice that occur in the book. The picture of God as creator and sustainer fits well with the creation narrative preserved in another book written by Moses(Genesis). (Study Bible, Page 567.)

As well, Ellen White writes: “Moses Wrote Book of Job.–The long years amid desert solitudes were not lost. Not only was Moses gaining a preparation for the great work before him, but during this time, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, he wrote the book of Genesis and also the book of Job, which would be read with the deepest interest by the people of God until the close of time (ST Feb. 19, 1880).”

Along with the above quotes, the additional lack of any reference to the Exodus or its surrounding events leads me to believe that the book of Job was heard and written by Moses during his time in the desert, and that it is the story of an actual non-Israelite, possibly Arabic believer. I think it is fairly clear what we should believe regarding the Job’s authorship.

By faith I believe, like the rest of the Bible’s stories and experiences, that Job actually existed and that he was a servant of God who endured his trials.
